Empower Young Mothers through Horticulture and Tailoring Skills (YHTS24-Ifakara)
> Improving Employability and Self-Sufficiency in Ifakara Town Council
Project Overview
Currently, EDO is implementing a one-year project titled “Empower Young Mothers through Horticulture and Tailoring Skills in Ifakara Town Council 2024 (EYHTS24-Ifakara).” This project, funded by Swisscontact through the EHS Program, runs from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Beneficiary Selection and Collaboration
In collaboration with local government authorities, EDO has selected 75 young mothers from nine wards in Ifakara Town Council to participate in employability training in tailoring and horticulture. This initiative aims to empower these women with essential skills that can lead to self-sufficiency and improved livelihoods.
Training Program Structure
The selected young mothers attend a comprehensive training program consisting of three phases: a 10-day soft skills training, 20 days of theoretical training, and 60 days of practical, hands-on training in tailoring and horticulture. This structured approach equips participants with both the foundational and technical skills needed for successful employment or business ventures.
Post-Training Support
Following the completion of training, beneficiaries receive six months of post-training support, including startup kits, coaching, and other resources to help them establish their businesses. This continued support encourages self-employment and enables the young mothers to apply their new skills effectively, paving the way for financial independence and long-term success.
